Understanding Short-Term Disability

Short-Term Disability (STD) Insurance provides income protection if you’re unable to work for more than three calendar days due to a non-work-related illness or injury.

STD benefits are based on your pre-disability earnings, which include your regular weekly rate of pay but exclude bonuses, commissions, overtime, and other extra compensation. For hourly employees, earnings are calculated by multiplying your hourly rate by your regular weekly hours, up to 40.

For approved disabilities:

  • Weeks 1–8 are paid at 100% of pre-disability earnings
  • Weeks 9–26 are paid at 70% of pre-disability earnings

Important things to note:

  • You must receive Aflac approval at least 10 days before payroll to ensure timely payment.
  • STD payments are processed through the Entegris payroll system.
  • STD pay is offset by any state disability benefits you receive.
  • Sick leave or open leave is used during any waiting period.
  • PTO does not accrue while you’re on STD.
  • Holidays during STD are paid at your income replacement rate.
  • Health and other benefit deductions continue during STD, and company‑paid benefits remain in effect.
  • Entegris follows applicable federal and state leave laws, which generally protect your position for up to 12 weeks.
